Workers' Compensation Benefits
If you are injured or become ill as a result of your work you may be eligible for Workers' Compensation benefits. These benefits may include coverage for healthcare expenses related to your injury or illness and compensation forwage loss. Wage loss benefits are calculated based on a percentage of your average net earnings however, some Collective Agreements provisions including the PCA, provide net pay benefits while an employee is off work on an established Worksafe BC claim.

How to Apply for Workers' Compensation Benefits
What to do if you are injured at work:
- Immediately notify your supervisor or manager.
- Seek first aid or medical attention for your injury. Be sure to tell your doctor your injury or illness is work related.
- If you have a needle stick injury from a medical sharp, or other blood or bodily fluid exposure, be sure to seek treatment at a hospital within 2 hours.
- Start a Workers' Compensation claim by completing the required forms or by calling your employer's incident reporting line. Keep copies of all completed forms for your own records.
- Remember to report your injury as soon as possible; it's a requirement of WorkSafe BC.
- If a UPN Steward is on shift, you may want to contact them for advice.
- Following an incident you should be contacted by your manager to participate in an accident investigation. This is an important step as it will help identify the cause of your incident and will hopefully prevent the occurrence of similar incidents.
