Union Labour Relations Program
An intensive 12-week program in Labour Relations offered in conjunction with Capilano College's Labour Studies Department. This recognized certificate program has a blend of knowledge, technical, and interpersonal skills essential to the practice of labour relations.
The next Union Labour Relations program runs from September 21, 2009 - December 11, 2009. The application deadline is March 13, 2009. To apply, please complete and submit an application form.
Goals:
- Build labour relations skills and knowledge amongst leaders and potential future leaders within the UPN.
- Create in-house resource persons and trainers to assist other stewards and leaders in serving the membership.
- Provide in-depth labour relations training to UPN members who are suited and interested in working for the UPN should an opportunity become available.

A keen interest and experience in worker and community advocacy
Basic Steward Training

Participant Commitments:
Must attend full time for entire 12-week period (non-negotiable). Classes are run Monday to Friday, 9 am to 4 pm at Capilano College, North Vancouver. There will be 3 designated extended weekends (i.e. 3 Fridays off) during the course.
UPN Support:
Participants will receive support in negotiating time off from the Employer and salary reimbursement for the 12-weeks based on their regular pay for their normal rotation. Out of town participants: Reimbursement for travel costs to and from the program and 2 additional round trips home. Accommodation will be funded and provided.
In town participants: Reimburses for travel and meals as per the UPN travel policy.
How to Apply:
- Download a copy of the application form off the UPN Website or call the Union office to have one sent to you.
- Fill out the application form and return it along with any documents by March 13, 2009.
- Applications must be submitted by the above date to be considered.
- Applications will be accepted and considered after this date only if seats are still available. Applications should be submitted to the UPN, attention Executive Committee, by fax (604-931-1070).
- You may mail it in to the Union office but you should consider the delivery time in order to have it arrive by the deadline noted above.
